Description
A comunicação interauricular (CIA) representa 15-
35% das cardiopatias congénitas. Esta patologia
pode provocar sintomas a nível pulmonar como
dispneia, infeção pulmonar e intolerância ao esforço,
e ainda problemas a nível cardíaco como arritmias
cardíacas, nomeadamente, flutter e fibrilhação
auricular.
a capacidade funcional e a função cardíaca e evitar
complicações e deterioração da sua qualidade de
vida.
ABSTRACT Interauricular communication represents 15-35% of congenital heart diseases. This pathology can cause pulmonary symptoms such as dyspnea, lung infection and stress intolerance, as well as heart problems such as cardiac arrhythmias such as flutter and atrial fibrillation. This communication if not corrected can worsen the quality of life and may even cause the death of the individual. The clinical case presented below is of a 50-yearold female patient diagnosed with interauricular communication. This patient has been followed for many years by the pediatric cardiology team, concluding that surgical intervention is inevitable, and that it was at the right time. In these cases, transesophageal echocardiogram is the main test for the diagnosis and control of this pathology. Throughout all previous years, this examination further revealed a slight aortic insufficiency and dilation of the right cavities. Thus, the patient was then submitted to a surgical intervention to correct the ASD, to improve functional capacity and cardiac function and avoid future complications, since symptoms begin to appear around these ages.
