O artigo pretende ser um contributo à história das instituições educativas em Portugal, ao analisar os
espaços escolares no Colégio de São Fiel dos jesuítas (1863-1910), de ensino elementar e secundário.
A nossa argumentação, de teor histórico-descritivo e hermenêutico, versa sobre a organização escolar
(os espaços e o tempo escolar) naquele colégio e as suas relações e implicações na vida e no processo
educativo dos alunos colegiais. A análise está dividida em 4 pontos: o ensino jesuítico nos colégios
(características); os espaços escolares no pensamento e ação dos jesuítas; a organização escolar no
Colégio; arquitetura do tempo escolar como categoria estruturante na vida do colégio. Estes pontos
permitem-nos compreender o funcionamento organizacional daquele colégio, convertendo-o num
património histórico-educativo e num lugar de memória socio-histórica.
The article intends to be a contribution to the history of educational institutions in Portugal, by analyzing the elementary and secondary education school space at the Collegium de São Fiel dos Jesuits (1863-1910). Our discussion, of historical-descriptive and hermeneutic content, deals with the school organization (school spaces and time) in that school and its relations and implications in the life and educational process of high school students. The analysis is divided into 4 points: Jesuit teaching in schools (characteristics); school spaces in Jesuit thought and action; school organization at the College; school time architecture as a structuring category in the life of the school. These points allow us to understand the organizational functioning of that school, converting it into a historicaleducational heritage and a place of socio-historical memory.
