Description
ABSTRACT: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important pathogenic microorganisms for humans. Its most pathogenic form, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), is considered the main causative agent of healthcare-associated infections and is widespread throughout the world with different prevalence rates. Bearing in mind that Health Professionals are at the interface between health institutions and the community, they can be reservoirs, vectors or victims of MRSA cross-transmission. In order to analyze the prevalence of MRSA in Health Professionals, a review of the literature was carried out, which demonstrated a global mean value of 2.6%. Professionals linked to the Nursing area were the main colonized by MRSA and the main Clinical Services affected are the Intensive Care Units and Surgery. Risk factors include skin lesions, lack of hygiene practices and the use of personal protective equipment, as well as the place of performance of professional activity. Regarding the relationship of Health Professionals with MRSA acquired in the community, further studies are needed, namely with the involvement of more participants. The screening of Health Professionals is a matter that still generates some controversy, given the variations in the objectivity of its effectiveness and at the time of its realization.
