Description
Através de vários estudos tem-se verificado que existe cada vez mais,
maior número de indivíduos com excesso de peso e obesidade e que este fator
de risco começa a ter cada vez maior expressão em idades mais jovens,
verificando-se que a obesidade é um grave problema de saúde pública, que
tem ganho grande expressão em Portugal. Neste contexto desenvolveu-se um
estudo para determinar a prevalência de excesso de peso e obesidade na
população adulta do distrito de Castelo Branco através da recolha de dados em
cada um dos seus concelhos. Este estudo do tipo transversal, analítico e
observacional totalizou uma amostra de 11 316 indivíduos, dos quais 55,6%
pertencem ao género feminino (n=6292) e 44,4% ao masculino (n=5024),
com idade compreendidas entre os 18 e 101 anos, média de 58,12 e desvio
padrão de 17,96 anos. Do total de indivíduos estudados verificou-se que a
média do índice de massa corporal (IMC) foi de 26,62 Kg/m2, com um desvio
padrão de 4,11 Kg/m2, em que o valor mínimo de IMC registado foi de 15,57
e o máximo de 50,78 Kg/m2. Mostrando estes valores que existe uma elevada
prevalência excesso de peso e obesidade na população adulta desta região.
ABSTRACT: Several studies have shown that more and more overweight and obese individuals are becoming more prevalent and this risk factor is becoming more and more expressed at younger ages. Obesity is becoming is a serious public health problem and has gained great expression in Portugal. In this context a prevalence study was developed to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the adult population of the Castelo Branco district by collecting data in each of its municipalities. This cross-sectional, analytical and observational study comprised a sample of 11316 individuals, of which 55.6% were female (n = 6292) and 44.4% male (n = 5024), aged 18 to and 101 years, mean of 58.12 and standard deviation of 17.96 years. From the total of individuals studied, it was found that the average body mass index (BMI) was 26.62 Kg / m2, with a standard deviation of 4.11 Kg / m2, where the minimum recorded BMI was 15.57 and the maximum of 50.78 kg / m2. Showing these values there is a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in the adult population of this region.
