Description
Abstract : This Internship and Project work was developed within the scope of the Master in Clothing and Textile Design and aims to present the work accomplished during the academic year 2020/2021. The internship took place between January and April, at Atelier Carlos Gil, in Fundão, and was intended to reinforce knowledge acquired in the academic field, as well as its application in a business context. It also allowed contact with the practical and multidisciplinary environment of design, facilitating the acquisition of professional experience. As a result of this Internship, an academic Project directed by the brand was carried out, with the intention of adding innovation and expanding the market to male customers. This document is divided into two main chapters. In the first one, the projects the learning experiences made during the internship as a pattern maker in Atelier Carlos Gil, are exposed. This experience was extremely important, because it allowed me to experience a real work context and to observe the operation of a small company, as well as allowing me to know more about the identity of the brand, its working methods, and its organization. The methodology adopted in the internship was: mixed interventionist and non-interventionist with a qualitative basis, in which research techniques were applied, using an information and bibliography collection, together with direct observation and the development of projects with the application of knowledge, previously acquired in academic training of active research. In this first chapter, the general and specific objectives of the internship are presented, as well as the research design/methodology and its organogram. Next, there is a biography of the designer and an analysis of the brand. This analysis revealed important characteristics such as the brand philosophy, the company organization, the target audience, the competing brands, and the creator's most recent collections. At the end of the chapter, there is an analysis of the experience gained through the curricular internship at Atelier Carlos Gil, and a review of the methodology used by the designer in the planning, modeling, and making of the collection. Information on the experience obtained in the internship and the specific nature of the work developed is also provided. Finally, there is a short observation and reflection on the experience. This experience not only allowed me to apply knowledge acquired in the context of academic training, but also to deal with new realities, acquiring new knowledge and theoretical and practical skills. The second chapter develops an investigation and the development of a capsule collection project, entitled "FREEDOM", as a proposal for an expansion of the Carlos Gil brand to a male audience. During the project, two prototypes were developed. The first, made through an artisanal tailoring course at Sastrería Serna, of a men's jacket. The second prototype consisted of the modelling and making of a suit in raw cloth of one of the project's coordinates.
